Our employed team consists of two talented Lighting Designers. Our freelance team is appointed in line with project demands, ensuring we have the right expertise for each unique project. This dynamic approach allows us to remain flexible and responsive to our clients’ needs while maintaining high standards of quality and innovation.

As Senior Design Manager, you will lead a dedicated team, overseeing site meetings and visits, which may require early starts and late evenings depending on the location. You should also be prepared for international travel as necessary. You may also be asked to undertake other duties and responsibilities that align with your role from time to time.

This role offers a balanced mix of home working, office-based days, and site visits. Flexibility and additional hours may be required to ensure work is completed on time and meets clients’ expectations.

You will foster a collaborative environment, working closely with your team to brainstorm, develop, and refine design concepts.

Your leadership will be crucial in guiding the team through complex projects, ensuring that everyone’s strengths are utilised effectively.

Your ability to communicate and collaborate with both your team and clients will be key to the success of your projects. You will be confident and adept in creating innovative and inspirational lighting schemes, ensuring clients can visualize and fully understand the design process and proposals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managerial
    • You will have your own design target as well as team targets.
    • Lead, mentor and manage the design team (both employed and freelance) ensuring they have the resources, tools and support they need to succeed.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their needs and ensuring their satisfaction.
    • Collaborate with other departments, such as technical support and procurement and assist with marketing briefs to ensure design alignment.
    • Ensure that all design outputs are consistent with the company’s brand guidelines.
    • Manage team and project design budgets effectively and ensure projects stay within time scales and budget.
    • Attend project or industry related events/overseas travel as required.
    • Attend networking and industry events/exhibitions independently or with the team or team member.
  • Design
    • Lead, navigate and support on design meetings either on site or via video call.
    • Be able to skilfully design and specify a lighting scheme for a wide range of residential, prime residential, hospitality/commercial projects.
    • Produce project concepts, mood images, lighting schemes, specification schedules, and control schedules.
    • Have extensive knowledge on a wide range of manufacturers.
    • Ensure all work is checked by another designer prior to issue.
    • The geographical reach of some LHD projects may mean some lengthy journeys which may require early starts and late evenings. Overseas travel may also be required.
    • Discuss, specify and assist with commissioning and programme control systems alongside AV specialists throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Attend photo shoots on completed projects with our appointed photographer.
  • Industry
    • Maintain industry knowledge and relations by visiting exhibitions and trade shows.
    • Meet with manufacturers with the Director of Business Operations and our Technical Procurement Partner as required.

Person Specification

  • Qualifications
    • Minimum of 5 years Lighting Design experience in a Lighting Design Studio.
    • Minimum of 2 years of leading a team of Designers.
    • Extensive OEM technical product knowledge.
    • AutoCAD essential
    • Adobe Creative Suite essential
    • DiaLux (advantageous) – We do not currently use Relux
    • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel & PowerPoint)

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by project schedules.

What We Offer

  • Salary: £56,000 to £65,000 (depending on experience)
  • Discretionary Bonus: Subject to Board approval
  • Commission Scheme: On projects you bring in, (that are not connected by previous or existing relationships to LHD) on Phase 1
  • Pension Scheme: NEST Company contributory pension scheme – statutory rate
  • Healthcare: Optional BUPA medical insurance
  • Health Plan: Health Shields Cash Plan
  • Holidays: 24 days holiday, plus Bank Holidays (4 days to be saved for Christmas Break)

As a Senior Associate Designer, you will be part of a small team, you will be required to attend site meetings/visits (this can mean early starts and late evenings depending on the location) as well as being prepared to travel overseas as necessary. You may also be requested to undertake other duties and responsibilities reasonably consistent within your role from time to time by the Company. The role will provide a happy mix of home working, office-based days, and site visits.

You are confident individual and at ease when creating innovative and inspirational lighting schemes and can ensure the client can visualise and understand the design proposal.

Design Services

Key Responsibilities

  • Meeting with client/Design teams to discuss the brief and talk through ideas and designs in detail.
  • Pitch ideas and the creative vision to the client and communicate the project outline to the design team if more than one working on a project.
  • Be able to produce concepts, mood images, lighting schemes, specification schedules and control schedules.
  • Discuss, specify and assist in commissioning and programme control systems, alongside AV specialists.
  • You will be required to attend yours and possibly help the design team with project commissioning.
  • Manage projected timelines and budgets.
  • Be able to delegate technical queries and utilise technical support that is available to you and the team.
  • Communicate with suppliers and main a good relationship with them.
  • Ensure project product procurement is logged.
  • Arrange and be present during project completion photography
  • Use market news/research to help inform design decisions.
  • Share any changes/upgrades on design software with the design team.
